WATCH - Dhawan and Rahane keep a good thing going

West Indies v India, 1st ODI, Port of Spain June 23, 2017

Dhawan and Rahane at it again

One of India's first-choice players missing in action in this series is Rohit Sharma, one half of the second-most prolific opening partnership in ODIs since the 2013 Champions Trophy. However, his replacement, Ajinkya Rahane, and Shikhar Dhawan have a good thing going themselves. This was their 14th opening stand together, and their partnership crossed 100 for the fourth time, taking their partnership average at the top of the order to 72.35.

Rahane fails to kick on

Given he has not been able to cement one particular position in the Indian ODI XI, the absence of Rohit has turned this series into an audition for Rahane. It is expected that KL Rahul will replace him when fit if Rahane doesn't grab this opportunity. He started off well in Port of Spain, turning a slow start into a free-flowing innings. As he crossed fifty, he started taking risks to turn this into just that big innings he needs, but in the process he failed to pick a slower one and perished for 62.

Runs before rain

All the fun came to an end at 39.2 overs though as persistent rain washed the match away. You can watch highlights of the innings below.
