Vijay-Pujara's outstanding home record
Since the start of the 2016-17 season, the M Vijay-Cheteshwar Pujara pair has been on a roll. In 11 partnerships, they have amassed 1163 runs at an average of 105.72. Their partnerships read: 112, 133, 27, 23, 209, 47, 16, 107, 178, 102, and 209. Their partnership on Saturday is their fourth century stand in a row, and their fifth in their last seven innings. Only four other pairs have ever managed as many successive century stands in Test history: Sam Loxton-Neil Harvey, Sanjay Manjrekar-Mohammad Azharuddin, Mark Butcher-Marcus Trescothick, and Younis Khan-Mohammad Yousuf.
Overall, the Vijay-Pujara pair average 89.09 per completed partnership in home Tests. Among the 42 pairs who have scored 1500-plus partnership runs at home, only two have a higher average - Clarke-Ponting, and Hobbs-Sutcliffe. For India, the next-best average is 71.75, between Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar. In 34 stands, they had eight century partnerships.
The Vijay-Pujara combination average 72.10 per partnership in 38 innings. Among the 23 Indian pairs who have added 1500-plus runs, their average is the best, more than four runs better than the second-placed Sehwag-Tendulkar.

The Vijay-Pujara stand finally ended at 209, which is their third double-century partnership in Tests. Only three Indian pairs have more double-century stands in Tests - Dravid-Sehwag, Dravid-Tendulkar and Ganguly-Tendulkar have four each.
Vijay and Pujara have put together nine century stands in just 22 innings at home. However, away from home, their numbers are not quite as impressive: they've managed just one century stand in 16 innings - 157 against South Africa in Durban in the 2013 Boxing Day Test - though their average of 48.75 is still fairly impressive. Over the next year or so, they should get several opportunities to add to their century tally overseas.
Pujara's 1000
Dimuth Karunaratne had reached 1000 Test runs in 2017 on the first day of this Test, and Pujara followed him on Saturday, becoming the third batsman to join that club this year. (The first player to get there was South Africa's Dean Elgar.) Among the three, Pujara easily has the best average (74.71), followed by Elgar's 54.85 and Karunaratne's 43.47. Since the start of September 2016, Pujara has seven hundreds, which is more than any other batsman - Elgar, Steven Smith and Virat Kohli have six each.
